Description
Embark on an extraordinary adventure as you traverse the iconic Mt. Manaslu region and the expansive Tsum Valley, also known as the Hidden Valley. This trek guides you through the imposing Mt. Manaslu, the world’s eighth-highest peak at 8,156 meters, and the sprawling Tsum Valley, situated at altitudes ranging from 1,905 to 5,093 meters. Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Tibetan culture, traditions, and ancient art, untouched by modern civilization.
Journeying through the far-off and pristine regions of Nepal, you’ll witness the ancient traditions of Tibetan Buddhism. Encounter the unique daily rituals and lifestyle of the locals in Tsum Valley, an area enclosed by Boudha Himal, Himal Chuli, Ganesh Himal, and Siring Himal (7,187m). The trail passes through Chumling (Lower Tsum) and Chhaikampar (Upper Tsum), featuring numerous mani walls, chortens, and prayer flags. Explore some of the holiest Tibetan monasteries where legendary figures like Guru Rinpoche and Milarepa once sought solace in nearby caves. Tsum Valley is not just a destination; it’s a sanctuary where trekkers can connect with themselves through meditation.
Your journey commences with a drive from Kathmandu to Arughat, the starting point of this expedition. The trail unfolds through cultivated fields, small villages, and the Budhi Gandaki Valley, leading to Lapubesi Village. As you progress, witness the majestic Sringi Himal and reach Philim via Chumling Village. Traverse pine and rhododendron forests, cross the Siyar Khola, and ascend to Ganesh Himal Base Camp and Lokpa. Passing through Gurung and Thakali villages, you’ll reach Samagaun for acclimatization.
Continue your trek to Samdo, Dharamsala, and conquer the Larke La Pass (5,106m) before descending to Chame, where the trek concludes. Throughout the journey, relish breathtaking views of Manaslu, delve into the region’s diverse history, and encounter various ethnic groups like Brahmin, Chhetri, Tamang, Magar, Tibetan, and Gurung. Marvel at the unique wildlife, including the elusive snow leopard, red pandas, and the robust Yak.
The Tsum Valley slowly unfolds its hidden beauty as you ascend higher into the mountains, passing through forests of pine, oak, spruce, and spectacular rhododendron blooms during spring. Gain insights into Tibetan Buddhism, characterized by its peaceful, compassionate, and loving traditions.
