Garden of Dreams

Description

The Garden of Dreams, also known as Swapna Bagaicha, stands as a tranquil haven amidst the bustling streets of Kathmandu. Constructed in the 1920s by Field Marshal Kaiser Shamser, inspired by the grandeur of Edwardian estates in England, this resplendent enclave reflects the fusion of Nepali and European aesthetics. Restored to its former glory over six years by an Austrian-financed team, the garden exudes a sense of serenity and elegance, beckoning visitors to escape the frenetic pace of city life.

Spread across 1.6 hectares, the garden boasts meticulously landscaped grounds adorned with original features like the ornate gate and marble inscriptions from Omar Khayyam’s Rubaiyat. Though diminished in size to half a hectare, the Garden of Dreams retains its allure, with three pavilions offering refuge to weary souls seeking solace. Visitors can recline on provided lawn mats, immersing themselves in the tranquility of the surroundings while savoring the cafe’s delights, operated by Dwarika’s hotel.

For many, the garden serves as a respite from the chaos of Kathmandu, offering a peaceful retreat where one can unwind amidst vibrant flora and cascading fountains. Whether enjoying a leisurely picnic or simply basking in the ambiance, the Garden of Dreams presents an opportunity to rejuvenate the spirit and recharge the body. While some may find the entry fee and cafe prices a tad steep, the experience of wandering through this verdant sanctuary remains a worthwhile endeavor, offering a moment of respite amid the whirlwind of urban life.
