Devi's Fall

Description

Devi’s Fall, also known as Davi’s Fall or Patale Chhango, is an extraordinary and unique waterfall located approximately 2 kilometers southwest of Pokhara Airport on the Siddhartha Highway in Nepal. The waterfall, fed by the Phewa Lake Dam, is a notable landmark and a popular tourist attraction due to its distinct natural phenomenon.

The fall is renowned for creating a 500-foot (150-meter) long underground tunnel after it reaches the bottom, running 100 feet (30 meters) below ground level. This tunnel has contributed to the fall’s local name, Patale Chhango, which translates to “Underworld’s Waterfall” in Nepali. The powerful flow of water from the Pardi Khola stream disappears underground, leaving no trace of its existence above the surface, a feature that sets it apart from other waterfalls in the region.

After cascading into the tunnel, the water flows through the Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, also known as the “cave beneath the ground.” This cave, a popular tourist site, is known for its intricate designs and complex pathways, which can be confusing to navigate. The cave adds another layer of mystery and allure to the already fascinating waterfall.

During the monsoon season, the sight of the waterfall is particularly spectacular, with powerful splashes against the boulders creating a dramatic and thrilling visual experience. Surrounded by lush flora, Devi’s Fall offers visitors a chance to witness the grandeur of nature and the relentless force of water as it carves its path through the rocks.

In summary, Devi’s Fall is a must-visit destination in Nepal, not only for its natural beauty and the unique underground tunnel it forms but also for its historical significance and the intriguing cave system that lies beneath. It stands as a testament to the natural wonders of the region and the enduring appeal of Pokhara’s landscapes.
