Bishazari Taal, also known as Beeshazar Tal, is a captivating natural wonder nestled within the buffer zone of the Chitwan National Park in the Inner Terai region of central Nepal. Spanning an area of 3,200 hectares at an altitude of 286 meters, this extensive oxbow lake system is renowned for its rich biodiversity and scenic beauty. The Mahabharat mountain range to the north and the Siwalik Hills to the south provide a stunning backdrop to this Ramsar site, designated in August 2003.
Despite its name suggesting “20,000 lakes,” Bishazari Taal is actually a single large oxbow lake system interconnected by numerous small and large lakes, earning it the moniker “Bishajari Tal.” The shape of the lake, resembling the number 20,000 when viewed from above, further adds to its allure.
