Description
Namo Buddha is a deeply revered place by the Buddhists in Nepal. Legend has it that several centuries ago, a young prince of the area named Smechen Chenpo or Mahasattva came across a weak tigress with several newly born cubs who were all starving. Out of great compassion, the prince offered himself to the tigress and the cubs. The prince’s act of benevolence is now carved on a stone slab at the same spot where he made the ultimate sacrifice.
It’s not just Namo Buddha religious history that makes it popular. Located at an altitude of at 1,750m, breathtaking views of lush green valleys, green terraced fields (visible from May to October), is equally scenic. The Thrangu Tashi Yangtse monastery, a Buddhist monastery on the hilltop also makes for a worthy explore. Its gold-coloured roof glistens under the afternoon sun. The serenity, peace and calm is unmistakable.
